About ICFM

Our Vision

The Italian Canadian Foundation of Manitoba Inc. is a registered charitable organization established to honour the memory of loved ones by creating opportunities for the undertaking of cultural, educational and benevolent activities.

The Italian Canadian Foundation of Manitoba (ICFM) is dedicated to preserving and promoting Italian culture within the Manitoba community. Our mission is to support cultural events, language programs, and community initiatives that celebrate Italian heritage and strengthen bonds within the community.

By fostering cultural understanding and appreciation, ICFM aims to create a vibrant and inclusive environment for all.

Within its broader mandate, the Foundation strives to improve the quality of community life, keep alive the memory of our forefathers, and instill a sense of pride in future generations.

Back in 1991 three individuals (Adriana Lombardini, Dr. Sam Loschiavo and Tony De Luca), each of whom had suffered the loss of a beloved family member, founded the Italian Canadian Memorial Foundation.

At that time, the scope of the Foundation was almost exclusively limited to receiving donations for the purchase and dedication of books in memory of deceased loved ones. As time went by, both the membership and the scope of the organization expanded. Thus, on November 23rd, 2000 the name was changed to Italian Canadian Foundation of Manitoba and it was officially registered as a charitable organization.

In September 2011, the Foundation became the sponsoring body of the Viva l’Italia Choir which was created that year in the context of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

In 2013, and in the context of Evening of Light Opera, the ICFM  started a new tradition by recognizing and honouring individuals who have contributed to the advancement and development of opera and music in general in Manitoba.

Collaborative fundraising events have been organized with representatives of the Chinese, Ukrainian, Polish, and Greek communities. On April 8th, 2022 the ICFM organized a fundraising dinner in support of Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine. A cheque in the amount of $19,000.00 was presented to Joanne Lewandosky, President, local chapter of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.

The ICFM is run by a volunteer Board of directors consisting of community-minded individuals who share a common interest in preserving and promoting the Italian Canadian cultural heritage.

Recognizing its limitations, largely due to the aging factor affecting a number of its members, the current Board is in the process of seeking out the collaboration of new members who can contribute fresh ideas and the skill sets necessary to propel the organization to a higher and more effective level of modus operandi.
